Joseph was a member of the movement from 1939. In 1942 he moved to Hungary and became an underground activist. In 1944 he returned to Slovakia and joined the partisans. Joseph took part in the Bukovec battle. He was caught (Haviva Reick was also caught there) but managed to escape and reach Bratislava. Joseph fell ill and was hospitalized. He was caught in the hospital and deported to Auschwitz.
